Breakout

We solved some tricky puzzles on Tuesday.

Room 8 participated in a Breakout - solving puzzles and using clues to find the combinations to open a series of locks and try and find out what was in the Breakout box.

We had to use many skills including collaboration, creativity, communication, problem-solving, close observation, thinking and perseverance.

Dojo Point Winners

Congratulations to this week's Dojo point winners:
Nicole and Joseph!

Animal Adaptations

We had a great trip to the Auckland Zoo.

We are learning about animal adaptations - the way animals are suited to their environments.
Frazier, the zoo teacher told us about alligators and crocodiles, Galapagos Tortoises, lemurs, and how they are suited to the places where they live.

We got to touch a real snake-skin that was nearly three meters long.

Badminton

We had the first of two introductory badminton lessons this week.
Kevin, from Auckland Badminton, came to school to coach our Middle School classes in the basics of this fun sport.
We even learned some trick shots, like hitting the shuttle from between our legs and behind our backs.

Battleships

Today in maths we played live battleships in our class.
A grid was made on the carpet and we had to name a coordinate to take a shot at the ships.
Each student stood at the coordinates where they shot. They sat down if the shot missed and stood if their shot hit. We ended up sinking all the ships.

Our Enviro Day

Room 8 had a surprising start to Term 4; it was our 7th Enviro Day. In the morning we used our team work, problem solving & perseverance to complete a scavenger hunt through the native bush walk. Well done Ashley, Daniel and Max - the winning team!

Next we learnt te Reo Maori words for common garden insects and wrote garden poetry. Did you know kihikihi is te Reo for cicada?

Lastly, we even got to explore the brand new orchard and taste the sugar snap peas we've been growing in the edible garden. They tasted so sweet, fresh and crunchy. Jasmine said she could eat a bucketful!

Enviro days are exciting & delicious!
