Millennium Trip

AUT Millennium Centre

Kayaking
My group was group 4. Our teacher Dawn, gave us each  a double-bladed spoon-shaped paddle. We learnt how to use the awesome spoon paddle.

After the lesson of how to paddle, our teacher gathered us up to do capsizing. First I didn’t know what capsizing was, but it was obvious it was rocking the kayak until we fell out.

Finally Dawn launched all the kayaks. They were like rockets. It was harder than I thought it would be.

Water  safety
Julie was our water safety teacher. She said, “Hop  in the water,’’ and we grabbed  the edge.

First we learnt how to swim backstroke, doggie paddle and froggie style without the leg moves.

After that we hopped in the inflatable life boat. Then we fell off like a parachute. We climbed back on as if we were rock climbing into the inflatable life boat.

  1. I don't fancy falling out of a kayak, Joseph! You obviously discovered many new skills.

  3. I hope you had a real great time. I've been to the Millennium Centre and I managed to manoeuvre my kayak out of the other people's kayaks way. Have you ever dived off the edge of a pool?

That sounded really exiciting, great job! Capsizing is harder than you think. A great way to get your kayak upright again is to try and find the railings and flip your kayak upright. Was your kayak heavy? Is that why it was so hard to flip it up?

  5. Spectacular piece of writing Joseph. I hope you had a good time. You created a vivid image in my head about what you did. I went to the Millennium center a few years ago and my favourite activity was Kayaking. What did you enjoy?

  7. The Millennium Institute is amazing and amusing. I bet you had a great time! Did you know that some of New Zealand's top athletes train there? One of them is Valerie Adams! Did you manage to manoeuvre the kayak in the pool?
